1930s Gras Ravel Model 304 “Semi-Fixe” Table Lamp by Bernard-Albin Gras

1930s Gras Ravel model 304 semi fixe table lamp 16

A rare and beautifully patinated Model 304 “semi-fixe” desk lamp designed by Bernard-Albin Gras and produced by Ravel Clamart, France, circa 1930.

This iconic piece exemplifies the pioneering functional design that made the Lampe Gras series a cornerstone of early 20th-century industrial aesthetics. Originally conceived for architects and engineers, the lamp’s pure lines and intelligent mechanics have made it an enduring symbol of modernist design.

The Model 304 features a distinctive two-arm articulated structure with adjustable joints and the signature semi-fixe base, allowing precise directional movement while maintaining elegant simplicity. The black enameled steel shaderetains its original finish with age-appropriate wear and light paint loss, lending authentic vintage character. The brass socket fitting and cloth-wrapped cable are consistent with early Ravel production.

The base appears to be an early or period adaptation in turned wood, providing a warm contrast to the industrial metalwork while maintaining the lamp’s sculptural integrity.

An excellent example of French industrial design — functional, honest, and timeless.
