Pair of Rock Crystal Wall Sconces, Attributed to Maison Baguès

Maison Baguès rock crystal sconces

A handsome pair of large scale twin-light wall sconces attributed to Maison Baguès, the Parisian house synonymous with gilt-iron and rock crystal lighting through the 20th century. Each applique rises from a stepped geometric gilt-iron box surmounted by a carved rock crystal obelisk, with a faceted rock crystal sphere suspended below on a pointed gilt terminal, and two scrolled arms carrying rock crystal bobèches. The crystal is the genuine mineral rather than glass — the natural internal veiling is clearly visible in the obelisks and spheres, and is the defining quality of the pair. Catalogued by Christie's as attributed to Maison Baguès, neoclassical taste, 20th century (The Collector: Le Goût Français, 18 April 2019, lot 271) Rewired and PAT-tested for UK use, currently fitted with LED candle lamps. Offered as a pair. Dimensions H 55 × W 46 × D 10 cm (21¾ × 18 × 4 in).
