Tall patinated bronze sculpture by the French artist Vincent Scali (b. 1956, Paris), cast in 1991 and numbered 1/7. A heavy, scroll-form upper element rests on three slender cast-bronze legs taken directly from natural branches — a working method drawn from Scali’s stated influence by Giuseppe Penone, in whose lineage the piece sits. The contrast between the dense, almost archaic mass of the upper form and the delicate, vegetal tripod beneath gives the sculpture its tension. Strong original verdigris patina throughout, with copper warmth coming through where the surface has been handled. Stamped SCALI 91 1/7 to the underside of the upper element. Substantial scale at 129 cm high. France, 1991.
