Mario Carreño y Morales (1913–1999) was a Cuban-Chilean painter renowned for his dynamic and evolving artistic style, which seamlessly blended Cubist abstraction, surrealism, and elements of Mexican muralism. Born in Havana, Cuba, Carreño began his formal art education at the Academia de San Alejandro in Havana in 1925. He furthered his studies at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid, the École des Arts Appliqués, and the Académie Julian in Paris .

Mario Carreño’s exploration of sensuality through fruit is evident in several of his works, where he intertwines organic forms with human figures, creating a dialogue between the natural and the erotic.
