A rare and sculptural bronze wall light designed by Chrystiane Charles and produced by Maison Charles, Paris.
In the form of a stylised leaf, deeply modelled with pronounced veining and a gently animated silhouette. The bronze is finished in a rich, dark patina, selectively heightened with gilded accents along the ribs and edges — a sophisticated contrast that became characteristic of Maison Charles under Chrystiane Charles’ creative direction during the post-war period.
This example originates from the contents sale of Chrystiane Charles’ gallery on Rue Bonaparte, Paris — the historic Maison Charles showroom and exhibition space. The model does not appear in standard published catalogues and no identical example has yet been identified. Given its direct provenance from the Rue Bonaparte gallery, and its sculptural handling consistent with Chrystiane Charles’ naturalistic modernism of the 1950s–60s, it is reasonable to consider this a design conceived by her, possibly a prototype or limited production model retained within the gallery.
Chrystiane Charles was instrumental in shaping the aesthetic evolution of Maison Charles in the mid-20th century, introducing a refined sculptural language that balanced organic form with architectural restraint. The present work exemplifies that balance — disciplined yet expressive, decorative yet controlled.
A rare and elegant example of mid-century Parisian bronze lighting with direct gallery provenance and strong attribution to Chrystiane Charles’ authorship.
