Art & Design - Peter Woodward
£1,450.00
Mid-century painted wooden wall cupboard with sliding pierced doors and open shelving, inscribed to the reverse “1951 – Fez, Morocco.” The cupboard’s simple geometric form, elongated wooden pulls and perforated sliding panels give it a distinctly modernist character, reflecting the functional design language that was emerging across Europe in the post-war period.
The rhythmic perforations and pared-back construction recall the utilitarian aesthetic explored by designers such as Charlotte Perriand and Mathieu Matégot, though this example was almost certainly produced by a local workshop in Morocco during the final years of the French Protectorate.
Retaining its original painted surface with attractive wear and patina, a sculptural and practical wall-mounted storage piece well suited to both traditional and modern interiors.
Date: 1951
Origin: Fez, Morocco
