Primavera

Small 1930s boule shaped table lamp attributed to PrimaveraPrimavera

The Art Deco period, which flourished from the 1920s to the 1940s, was a vibrant and influential design movement characterised by bold geometric patterns, luxurious materials, and a fusion of modernity with craftsmanship. It marked a departure from the ornate styles of the 19th century, embracing sleek lines, symmetry, and vibrant color palettes. Art Deco drew inspiration from a wide range of sources, including ancient Egyptian, African, and Eastern art, as well as technological advancements and the glamour of the Jazz Age.

Primavera was the prestigious decorative department within Printemps, one of Paris’s iconic department stores, and became synonymous with high-end luxury and the latest design trends. Established in the early 20th century, Primavera played a pivotal role in shaping the Art Deco movement in France, offering exquisite furniture, lighting, textiles, and decorative objects. It served as a hub for both emerging and established artists and designers, helping to solidify Paris as the epicentre of modern design during the Art Deco era.
