Jacques Adnet was a leading French Art Deco and modernist designer, celebrated for his refined leather-clad furniture and architectural use of brass and metal. A pivotal figure in 20th-century French design, Adnet successfully bridged classical decorative traditions with post-war modernism.
Born in 1901, Adnet became director of the Compagnie des Arts Français in 1928, guiding the firm under the motto “Évolution dans la tradition” until its closure in 1959. During the 1950s he developed his most recognisable body of work: elegant desks, consoles, mirrors and lighting combining saddle-stitched leather, brass frames and clean geometric structure.
His iconic circular leather mirror and leather-wrapped desks remain among the most sought-after pieces in the mid-century French design market.
