Art & Design - Peter Woodward
£3,850.00
A powerful and highly sculptural ceramic work by Joan Carrillo, dating from his most desirable early-1970s period. At this point in his career Carrillo moved decisively away from functional ceramics, producing architectonic, non-utilitarian forms conceived as pure sculpture.
This example is distinguished by its compressed ovoid body and bifurcated crest, animated by a deep blue-black reduction glaze with iron-rich copper spotting and subtle horizontal striations. Monumental in scale and presence, it is signed to the base and intended for plinth display.
An outstanding example of post-war Spanish studio ceramics, aligning with the broader European sculptural ceramic movement of the late 1960s and 1970s.
